Castillo de Colomares is a tribute to Christopher Columbus

The building is the work of Esteban Martín y Martín and two bricklayers from Malaga, and mixes influences from different architectural styles such as neo-Byzantine, neo-Romanesque, neo-Gothic and neo-Mudejar that have left a cultural mark on Spain. The materials used are brick, concrete, natural stone and wood among others; in addition to the stained glass windows in the interior.

The monument presents various elements ofthesymbolism of the Catholic Kings, the three cultures present in medieval Spain (Christianity, Judaism and Islam) and other elements of Columbus' voyage. It is worth noting the presence of a Chinese pagoda that symbolizes Columbus' original idea of reaching the coasts of Asia.

If you visit Benalmadena, it´s also interesting have a meal at Puerto Marina, visit Selwo Marina or the cable car to Calamorro mountain.
